Question 1

What does ImageSL measure?

Accepted Answer

ImageSL measures the area of DAB-positive staining in immunohistochemistry images of tissue sections. It segments tissue from slide background, separates the chromogen from the counterstain by colour deconvolution against the Ruifrok stain vectors, and reports positive area as a percentage of the imaged field together with the settings used.

Question 2

Are slides uploaded anywhere?

Accepted Answer

No. The desktop application runs the entire analysis engine on your own computer and works with no network connection, so a slide never leaves the machine. The only network request it makes is a best-effort check for a newer version, which fails silently when offline.

Question 3

Is ImageSL free?

Accepted Answer

Yes. ImageSL is free and open source under the Apache License 2.0. The source is published at github.com/Image-SL/ImageSL and there is no account, licence key or subscription.

Question 4

Is ImageSL a medical device?

Accepted Answer

No. ImageSL is research software. It measures how much of an image is stained and reports that number with the settings used to produce it - it does not interpret, diagnose, grade or classify anything, and it has no diagnostic function to misuse. It is not a medical device, has not been cleared or approved by any regulatory authority, and must not be used for clinical decisions. Validate it against your own ground truth before relying on any measurement.
